Germany captain Philipp Lahm criticizes Klinsmann in new book

Quote :
Lahm left little room for misunderstandings when he wrote that
Klinsmann—the current United States coach—showed little tactical awareness
during the 47-year-old’s unsuccessful time as Bayern coach.

“The players had to get together before games to discuss how we wanted to
play at all,” Lahm wrote. “After six or eight weeks, all the players already
knew it wouldn’t work with Klinsmann. The rest of the season was damage
limitation.”

The Yanks Are Coming: USA-Costa Rica preview

Quote :
Then, in a quicker than expected hiring, Klinsmann named his buddy
Martín Vásquez second in command for the US. Vásquez is a career soccer
guy, and there’s no doubt he knows the game, but his last gig under
Klinsmann was in the same role for Bayern Munich. For the team that Lahm
was on. The same team that fell way short of expectations, and was just
criticized for being tactically deficient, for the record. Admittedly,
Phil Lahm has a track record of running his mouth and being a bit of a
petulant punk, but that doesn’t make him wrong. Germany manager Joachim
Löw has already told the press that Lahm would be disciplined for the
comments made against his former mentor, but again, that doesn’t make
Lahm wrong. I’m not saying Lahm is right, but many in the US Soccer
community had expressed a hope upon Klinsmann’s hiring that he would
appoint an “x’s and o’s guy” as his number two, and it doesn’t seem like
that’s what happened. I agreed with everyone from Alexi Lalas to this
site’s own Neil Blackmon on what type of “right-hand” Klinsmann should
bring in, so color me skeptical about the hire Jurgen just made.

Jeff Carlisle: The honeymoon is over for Klinsmann

Quote :
"[The U.S.] has to figure out a way to manufacture that confidence
that usually comes with winning," said Fox Soccer Channel analyst Jimmy
Conrad. "From the outside, it just doesn't look like they're all on the
same page. That has to come from the coaching staff. Obviously, the
older guys can help with that, too, but that's an atmosphere and an
environment that the coaching staff has to produce.

"That comes
with a game plan that everybody feels confident in. If you put out a
game plan that hasn't worked for a few games, and you're still going
back to that same game plan, then you're already going to get guys that
feel a certain way about it before they step out onto the field, and I
wouldn't say it's necessarily inspiration."

Steven Goff: Klinsmann’s contract with USSF pays him $2.5 million in base salary

Quote :
Juergen Klinsmann will earn $2.5 million in base salary to coach
the U.S. men’s national soccer team — more than four times higher than
his predecessor, Bob Bradley, and 13 times larger than women’s coach Pia Sundhage.

Meantime, the Insider has learned that the Chicago-based organization
is bracing for losses over two to three years after reporting gains in
recent years. One source cited Klinsmann’s contract, an increased
financial commitment to officiating programs at the pro level and
expansion of the Development Academy, which was created in 2007 to
improve the quality of the national youth system.

Steve Davis: Klinsmann pushes his players to break free of comfort zones abroad

Quote :
As word first emerged of Jurgen Klinsmann's desire to direct young
MLS talent into training spells abroad, we all assumed this was about
players maintaining fitness and gaining a little more technical
expertise. Klinsmann directed everyone toward that sentiment through
laments of the MLS season's relative brevity, about two months too short
in his opinion.

But that's a vastly incomplete explanation
of what Klinsmann, now in his fifth month at U.S. soccer's highest
coaching post, hopes players such as Brek Shea, Tim Ream, Juan Agudelo
and others can accomplish through a few weeks abroad.

Klinsmann speaks out on Porter, the U.S. U-23s, Gomez and more

Quote :
During a media conference call, the U.S. senior national team coach
emphatically stated that Porter's place within U.S. Soccer is secure.
Just what his role going forward will be or how he will be integrated
into the program is still up for discussion, but Klinsmann said that he
met with Porter in Chicago Tuesday to look back on the futile Olympic
qualifying effort and look ahead to the future.

Klinsmann delved into the Santos Laguna striker's run of form -- he has
scored in seven straight games, tallying nine goals in that time --
saying that Gomez is very much on his radar.
