Charlie Davies takes a dive

Quote :

Charlie Davies took a dive last night, and the referee bought it. It
wasn't pretty, but not everyone agrees that it wasn't right. Charlie
either shamed himself or saved a point for this club, depending on one's
view point. I bet you can guess which group of fans make up the
majority of those ascribing to the latter.

On the one hand, anything that takes points away from RSL is a good thing. On the other, bigger hand, Davies should be fined and suspended, as should the officials. Given how crap MLS refs are at spotting that kind of thing, MLS needs to crack down on that kind of behavior with hefty punishments.

Ives: MLS discipline ticker

Quote :
RED BULLS FINED FOR SOLER'S COMMENTS
MLS fined the New York Red Bulls $10,000 for general manager Erik
Soler's statement that publicly bashed the officiating crew from New
York's 3-3 draw with the Portland Timbers.

GALAXY FINED FOR VIOLATING INJURY REPORT RULES
MLS fined the Los Angeles Galaxy $5,000 for violating the league's
injury report rules. The league's disciplinary committee determined that
the Galaxy purposefully left David Beckham's name off the injury report
ahead of the club's game at Colorado despite knowing that he wouldn't
play because of back spasms.

I just don't think he is a seasoned enough player to "lead" a team yet. A great little midfielder, but not the experience to mold a cohesive midfield and that is what DC really needed. I think it will be a great trade for Dax and D-Ro.

The problem for Dax in DC was that he didn't have a destroyer behind him like he had in BAMF here. BAMF did a lot of the dirty work that freed up Dax to focus more on the attacking end of things.

Sports Illustrated MLS notes

Quote :
FC Dallas continues to rise to the challenge. Despite reigning
league MVP David Ferreira being injured and Designated Player attacker
Fabian Castillo being away on Under-20 duty for his native Colombia,
players continue to step up for FC Dallas. Brek Shea
tallied for the fourth consecutive league game and Jackson scored in his
third straight as FCD coasted by the Columbus Crew, 2-0, in a Pioneer
Cup battle. Shea was recently rewarded with a four-year
contract extension that will keep him at Pizza Hut Park through 2015,
and instead of putting himself on cruise control with his future sorted
out, he continues to blossom and progress. The overall team
effort has been impressive, especially the feel coach Schellas Hyndman
has developed for how to deploy his players (that is after he sent Shea
on a journey from center back to forward back to his natural left wing
position). Dallas started Saturday night without a true forward in its
lineup, though Honduran winger Marvin Chavez assumed that role against
the Crew. It didn't seem to matter. The collective
versatility of Shea, Chavez and Jackson, the bite in central midfield
provided by Andrew Jacobson and Daniel Hernandez and the lockdown back
line combination of Zach Loyd, George John, Ugo Ihemelu and Jair Benitez
are all on the same page in front of steady goalkeeper Kevin Hartman
and have FC Dallas looking like a contender for the second straight
year. Even with losing a player as key as Ferreira, FCD has the horses
that have allowed it to follow up its 1-3-1 start by going 9-1-3 in its
last 13 games.
