Shea's signed through 2015.

Was thinking it would be something more immediately impactful, but that's Schellas for ya...

While I'm glad we get to watch his game evolve a few more years, I too was underwhelmed.

The only fuzzy logic that works for me is that there have continually been rumors about European teams sniffing around about him, the presser was more of a show for those teams to back off.

I think that this is the right way to do it. Not only did they sign Brek to a long term contract, but they showed their appreciation to Brek by making a big deal about it. I think this is as much for Brek's psyche as it is for any other reason.

And it certainly seems to have helped in that respect. he had a great couple games and it makes me feel good as a supporter that he will be with us for a few more years. Now we need to get a Brek Shea chant practiced and ready to go. Every time we do one, it sounds lame to me.

Making a big deal out of the announcement is how you get the press to pay attention. I don't actually remember if they did, but it's a step in the right direction, rather than letting this go without anything more than a press release.

Also, this long term contract means that if Brek gets sold to another team, then we get to keep the $$.

Both the contract and the hoopla about the contract create value in him, which drives up any asking price.

But aside from the skunk stripe in his hair, I like what I've seen from him and hope we get to see him playing well for FCD for many years.
