| Crazy day at the WWC. England out after taking France all the way to PKs. It's the first WWC game to go to pk's since the US won the final in 1999. I put England's loss on coach Hope Powell's suspect game management. Subbing out two defenders at the same time, one of which (Alex Scott) was having a wonderful game to that point. Then burning her 3rd sub when Kelly Smith was clearly in pain after spraining her ankle. Then in the other game, Germany was playing like they expected Japan to simply roll over and let them win. Neid seemed to be at a loss as to what exactly to do with all the talent on her roster. So wierd that when Germany is on the ropes fighting for their WC lives with Beergut on the bench. Great gameplan by Japan from the jump. Sawa is likely a national legend back home now. She even took a nasty kick to her lady bits (which does hurt when it happens) and came back to serve up a wonderful ball that lead to the game winning goal. So far it looks like finishing second in your group is a good thing during this WWC. Both England and Germany topped theirs. | |

| Today I got a birthday present from Abby Wambach and Hope Solo. Abby scored a goal to take the game to PKs. Hope Solo stopped Brazil in their tracks. As a result, I get another USWNT game on Wednesday. | |

| My birthday is Wednesday so the gift is early but they can tie a ribbon of another win in the semis for me. I adore this pic so damn much considering that Wambach was the spokesperson for Greg Ryan when Solo was booted off the team in 2007. | |

| Surprising news from the corner of the world I'm in: Palm Beach Post: West Palm Beach with third-highest TV rating in the country for WWC finalBaltimore was #1, San Diego #2. - Quote :
- Sunday's match also was a hit in cyberspace. ESPN's live streaming
ESPN3.com had 548,000 unique viewers, a record for a women's sporting event.
And the match set a record with 7,196 tweets per second, eclipsing the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and the killing of Osama bin Laden. | |
