FC Dallas continues to rise to the challenge. Despite reigning league MVP David Ferreira being injured and Designated Player attacker Fabian Castillo being away on Under-20 duty for his native Colombia, players continue to step up for FC Dallas. Brek Shea tallied for the fourth consecutive league game and Jackson scored in his third straight as FCD coasted by the Columbus Crew, 2-0, in a Pioneer Cup battle. Shea was recently rewarded with a four-year contract extension that will keep him at Pizza Hut Park through 2015, and instead of putting himself on cruise control with his future sorted out, he continues to blossom and progress. The overall team effort has been impressive, especially the feel coach Schellas Hyndman has developed for how to deploy his players (that is after he sent Shea on a journey from center back to forward back to his natural left wing position). Dallas started Saturday night without a true forward in its lineup, though Honduran winger Marvin Chavez assumed that role against the Crew. It didn't seem to matter. The collective versatility of Shea, Chavez and Jackson, the bite in central midfield provided by Andrew Jacobson and Daniel Hernandez and the lockdown back line combination of Zach Loyd, George John, Ugo Ihemelu and Jair Benitez are all on the same page in front of steady goalkeeper Kevin Hartman and have FC Dallas looking like a contender for the second straight year. Even with losing a player as key as Ferreira, FCD has the horses that have allowed it to follow up its 1-3-1 start by going 9-1-3 in its last 13 games.
FC Dallas' Kevin Hartman: If the award could be re-named, "Most Heroic Goalkeeper Under Ridiculously Relentless Siege," Toronto's Stefan Frei would be a shoe-in. As it is, and as valiant as Frei has been while backstopping the league's worst defense, awards rarely fall to someone near the bottom of league stats. So, congratulations to Hartman.

How can we possibly afford to let Brek go for this match when we have a CCL match in SAouth America?

We don't. At least according to the man himself (not his bobblehead dopplegangers):

I know it's a friendly game LA v Man City, but was anyone else as disgisusted as I was with Balotelli
I wasn't shocked at all. It's Balotelli, and this type of behavior isn't new at all. Thank goodness Mancini acted as a manager should and took him out of the game. I personally think Mancini should cut Balotelli's trip short and put him on the very next plane to England.
Mancini did the right thing by yanking him out ASAP. I think his team was disgusted by his behavior and they were in his ear the rest of the time he was out there. It did send a message to LA and they stepped their game up after that. I give a lot of credit to Hart as he was almost flawless in giving City the win.
“It’s no secret we wanted to sign someone to help us in the attacking third,’’ said Revolution vice president of player personnel Michael Burns. “He’s a strong, good-sized, target striker, and we’re hoping he scores goals.’’
Burns said the Revolution based their judgment on recommendations and video evidence.
“It is extremely rare for us,’’ Burns said of signing a player without having scouted him in person.
